26th Sunday after Pentecost. Tone one. Nativity Fast. Luke 24:1-12 (4th Matins Gospel). Ephesians 5:8-19. Luke 12:16-21.

Venerable Sabbas the Sanctified (532). Venerable Nectarius of Bitol (1500), and his elder, St. Philotheus, of Karyes Skete, Mt. Athos. Serbian Children’s Day.

In the morning of Detinjci, the adults use a belt, rope, or scarf to tie their children, binding their legs. The children have already prepared presents for this event, with which they “pay the ransom” and get untied.

St. Sabbas the Sanctified was a Palestinian monastic who is credited with composing the first monastic rule of church services. He was a staunch opponent of the heretical movements.
