2017-2018 School Year
Dear Parents,
We are near completion of preparation for the upcoming 2017-2018 Church School year. All necessary study plans and programs for all groups have been done. We refurbished two of our classrooms with fresh coats of paint so that our Church school children can learn in a clean and warm environment. Apart from this, we have important changes we wish to implement so that our church has a high quality Sunday school both in a spiritual as well as a cultural sense.
I would like for the Sunday school class times to remain the same on Sundays. Pre-school children are expected to learn about Christ’s Gospel. Children from the first to fourth grades are to learn about the Divine Liturgy and prayer. Children from the fifth to eight grades are to learn about the various church holidays and Lenten or Fasting times. All classes will begin at 10 am until the point in the Divine Liturgy when the “Our Father” prayer is read or sung by the choir.
The high school children will learn about the truth of the Orthodox faith and some of the contemporary issues that the church faces. Classes for these children will follow the meal served after the Divine Liturgy and will be taught by me or by a seminary student assigned to our church. During this time, younger groups will meet for Junior choir practice, where they will learn to sing both spiritual and ethnic songs. In this way we will have a wonderful program for Children’s Day during Bozic, St Sava Day and other days of church celebration.
Our intention is to start having a separate class in Serbian culture and language. For this reason, it is important to move folk dance practices to Fridays from 7 pm to 9:30 pm just as it is done in every Serbian Orthodox church in the Chicagoland area. By doing so, we can also offer our children art classes. Parents may be able to come to Friday evening church service (Vespers), assist to prepare a Friday Lenten meal for all and/or to play a game of chess or ping-pong in the church hall.
I am also inviting you to come and attend a parent’s meeting on August 20, after the Divine Liturgy so that we can talk about all of our plans in more detail.
Please “save the date” of September 17, 2017 as our annual Welcome Picnic; October 6, 2017 as an “Evening of Spiritual and Lyric Poetry,” and Saturday, October 21, 2017 as our Fall Dance.

Драги родитељи,
Приводимо крају припреме за почетак нове црквеношколске 2017./2018.године. Припремљени су наставни планови и програми за све групе. Реновирали смо и две учионице, да наша деца могу да уче у пријатном и чистом амбијенту. Поред тога, планирамо још много важних промена, како би наша црква могла да добије квалитенју црквену школу, и духовни и културни центар.
Волео бих да се часови веронауке одржавају у до сада уобичајеним терминима недељом. Предшколска група по плану и програму ће да учи о Христовом Јеванђељу, група од првог до четвртог разреда о богослужењу и молитви, а група од петог до осмог разреда о црквеним празницима и постовима. Настава за ове групе ће да почиње у 10ч. и трајаће до молитве Оче наш. Ученици средње школе ће да уче о истинама Православне вере и савременим проблемима. Часови за ову групу ће да почињу после Литургије и ручка, и држаћу их ја или студент богословског факултета. Млађе групе ће за то време да имају пробе малог хора, на којима ће да уче духовне и изворне песме, како бисмо имали садржајан програм за Детињце, Светог Саву и друге прилике.
Намера ми је да почнемо да држимо посебне часове српског језика и културе. Због тога је важно да часове фолклора померимо за петак у термину од 19ч. до 21,30ч., као што је пракса у свим чикашким црквама. Тако бисмо могли да деци понудимо и часове у ликовној радионици. Родитељи би за то време могли да дођу на вечерњу службу у цркви , по договору припреме посну вечеру, и да у црквеној сали заједничаре уз шах или стони тенис.
Позивам Вас на родитељски састанак у недељу 20. августа након Литурије, да о свему детаљније поразговарамо. Такође Вас молим да прибележите датуме за пикник добродошлице у недељу 17. септембра, вече духовне и лирске поезије у петак 6. октобра, и јесењу фолклорну забаву у суботу 21. октобра.
